To create one’s world in any of the arts takes courage.
— Painter Georgia O’Keeffe

Itinerary

Day One: Wednesday, March 5
Fly west, adventurous Sirens, and arrive at ABQ or SAF (Albuquerque or Santa Fe airports) Wednesday afternoon. If you are landing in Albuquerque, Siren Sojourns will book a Groome Transportation shuttle for you right to the hotel.

Please catch a Lyft if you are arriving in Santa Fe.

Check in, freshen up, catch a cat nap or take a walk and prepare for an authentic dinner of northern New Mexico deliciousness. (The margaritas are on you but please indulge. It’s a hop, skip and a jump back to our hotel)

Please bring a book to exchange with a fellow Siren. Then retire for sweet dreams and much anticipation for the days ahead.

Lodging & Meals: Hotel (TBD) Dinner.

Day Two: Thursday, March 6
Rise and shine for a warm and filling breakfast and let all six senses be overwhelmed by historic marvels and creative beauty we’re going to experience today.

We’ll begin on Santa Fe’s famous Museum Hill, a soaring, sun-drenched aerie of art, crafts and priceless artifacts.

The Museum of Indian Arts & Culture is our first stop, a light-filled space that honors the vibrant objects, jewelry and clothing made by Native peoples. Linger to read the rich histories of the tribes and take in the artistic details in the displays. The gift shop is also a treasure trove for crafts and mementoes.

Next, we’re headed to the remarkable Museum of International Folk Art. I’ve never been to a museum quite like this.

We’ll peruse the intricate exhibits of Mexican, Southwestern and Native folk art and then wander into a museum wing like no other. Alexander and Susan Girard roamed the world, collecting art that ranges from the sublime to the silly. They decreed that the collection be displayed as a whole and the result is….mind-blowing!

Dazzled by color and beauty, we’ll gather for a late lunch in the Museum Hill Cafe where we’ll linger over corn custards, delectable sandwiches and refreshing salads. And, Sirens, let’s talk books!

When we’re finished, you are welcome to see yet another museum or retreat to our hotel for some reading or relaxation time. Or walk to the galleries and fine shops on nearby Canyon Road.

Dinner is yours to decide.
Lodging & Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day Three:
 Friday, March 7
Rise rested and eager for the new day but you may want to partake of only a light breakfast because we are spending the morning at Santa Fe’s most awarded cooking school.

We’ll plunge our hands into the freshest of ingredients as chefs teach us how to create some of the southwest’s most distinctive dishes. The best part will be sampling our sumptuous creations.

Replete with delicious food, we’ll head for Canyon Road and the Garcia Street Bookstore, a superbly-curated collection of Southwestern fiction, non-fiction, art books and gifts.

Peruse to your heart’s content and then meet us next door on the patio of the Downtown Subscription Cafe for a coffee or cup of tea. Wait til you see their magazine rack!

If you are peckish, grab a quick bite before we embark on SirenSojourns Movie Night! Game of Thrones empire builder, George R.R. Martin, owns the Jean Cocteau Cinema, a historic independent theater, and we’ll take in a classic or gothic film.

Lodging & Meals: Breakfast, Brunch at Santa Fe School of Cooking.

Day Four: Saturday, March 8
Let’s have a leisurely breakfast and set off for the renowned Galleries of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the only museum in the world dedicated to the work of an American woman artist.

O’Keeffe was an eastern city dweller until she made a trip, in 1929, to northern New Mexico. The reddish rock formations, the shifting colors and shapes in the landscape and the desert light beguiled her and she and her husband, photographer Alfred Stieglitz, returned many times.

In 1949, O’Keeffe left New York and moved to New Mexico, where she created some of her most iconic work.

My painting is what I have to give back to the world for what the world gives me.
— Georgia O’Keeffe

When we’ve gloried in O’Keeffe’s magnificent art, you have the afternoon to shop, have a spa treatment at the world famous Ten Thousand Waves or simply wander the historic treasures of Santa Fe.

Or you can choose to take an afternoon hike with Kerri at Hyde Memorial State Park.

Energized and refreshed, let’s gather for dinner and a book discussion.
